Hey guys.
Currently #sasaengstop is trending on twitter and I decided to make a blog post about it because I have a lot of things to rant. I'm sorry not sorry if I hurt any soul with this blog post. I will be very honest in this blog post and if you're not okay with that, then maybe you shouldn't read this. Just to let you know, I'm not on any parties side. This is just my two cents on sasaeng fans. So, here goes nothing.
Sasaeng fans has been around for quite some time and recently, community are giving interest regarding them. The word 'sasaeng' is a Hangul word which means obsessed. The term 'sasaeng fans' is widely used by Kpoppers in the Hallyu Wave. However, sasaeng fans also exists in other countries. America, Europe, China etc only obsessed fans in other countries are not recognised by the term 'sasaeng fans'. So basically, 'sasaeng fans' is referred to Kpop idols' fans; obsessed fans to be exact.
Sasaeng fans can be found in South Korea (obviously) and they could potentially be the scariest type of fans there is. They hire taxis to chase their idols' vans, write notes using period blood, steal their idols' undergarments, breaks in dorms or in conclusion, they invade idols' personal lives. They would camp outside their idol's agencies to make sure they are close with their idols at all times. Some sasaeng fans would hire professional hackers to hack into their idol's phone etc
In 2009, Super Junior involved with an accident involving sasaeng fans. The sasaeng fans chased Super Junior in sasaeng taxis (where the taxi driver charges a minimum $30 per hour to chase the idol's van) and hit other cars that has nothing to do with them. They would chase their idols everywhere and every time, so imagine the price they have to pay? Are they that rich? Well guess what, sasaeng fans are mostly students, teenagers. So they will either lie to their parents about going into hagwon or private schools (which costs 800,000 won per month), work part-times or involve in a prostitution (with the taxi driver in order to pay the cost).
Its very obvious that no one will actually like these types of fans. (yes we still call them a fan) but come to think of it, the obsessed stage will come to every fangirl if they don't know the limits. So, if you're not a sasaeng fan then don't put an angelic look on your face yet because if we were in their position, we could become sasaeng fans too. They became sasaeng fans because they were in the same country and maybe city with their bias, so it's like a golden opportunity for them.
Just imagine walking down the streets and meet with your bias. You know that feeling. Maybe the sasaengs want that feeling all the time? and stalking them is their only way? just maybe they have a major problems and the only way they can get out of reality is by stalking their bias? Who knows right? Okay I probably sound like I'm defending them but I'm actually not. It's true that what they did was wrong and it could harm other people but they can't stop.
Probably they are not addicted to their idols, they could be addicted to what they are doing, stalking
The thing with sasaeng fans is if we tell them to stop, they will do it. Maybe 'stop' means 'Go for it!' in their vocab. They could also be very selfish and hot-tempered. Once there was an incident where this idol entered somewhere and the fans were waiting for him. The idol waves hand at the normal fans and ignore the sasaeng fans. After the idol left, the sasaeng fans were so mad at the normal fans that they pick a fight with the normal fans. The normal fans got hit and their wallet was taken by the sasaeng fans. yikes
I've read tweets regarding sasaeng fans and they were so mad at them. Heh. "Respect your idols" "Get a life" "At least us normal fans know respect" yup I'm sure you do but your tweets are not that convincing. I know you're mad at sasaengs fans, I, too am mad at them. However, scolding them online won't do anything because they are probably out there stalking. They ain't got time to read yo #sasaengstop tweets. Sasaeng will be sasaeng. And the only person that can change their attitude, is themselves.
No war. No haters. No bash.
Peace!
